LEVULAN ACNE TREATMENT AND PHOTOREJUVENATION
Finally a procedure that shows positive results in the treatment of moderate acne. A new FDA approved topical solution called Levulan has entered the market. Levulan is applied directly to the acne and the areas of the skin where the acne is present. The solution makes the acne more sensitive to light. The Levulan solution is left on for 45-60 minutes and then the patient is exposed to a Treatment. The Treatment offers effective, non-invasive and pain-free emission of . This light activates the acne healing Levulan solution. The Treatment is not a laser. It emits safe, cool, visible light. A Treatment session lasts for a period of 4 – 8 minutes and can cause minimal discomfort. After the treatment is completed, most patients experience some reddening and minor swelling of the acne.

Levulan is also utilized for Photorejuvenation. Levulan is applied on the area needing photorejuvenation and left on for 45-60 minutes again making the applied skin more sensitive to light. Once this time has passed the doctor uses the IPL laser to activate the Levulan. The results from this procedure give the patient smoother, softer and more vibrant skin.

Radiesse
Radiesse is a clear, biodegradable gel used for wrinkle removal and lip enhancement. Radiesse is gentle and safe to the skin, and contains no animal ingredients. It can improve the signs of aging and create a younger appearance. Treatments are long-lasting, but not permanent, so if treatment is discontinued, your face will gradually return to its natural contours. Radiesse is injected into the treatment area with a very fine needle and results are immediate leaving no scars. For lip enhancement, Radiesse injections create fuller lips or a soft, pouting look. It’s also effective in removing vertical lip lines. Results last up to 6 months. For fine line and wrinkle removal, Radiesse treatments will last from 6 to 12 months. Radiesse treatment takes about 30 minutes and the amount of discomfort depends on the sensitivity of the patient's skin. Injection-related reactions may occur such as post treatment swelling, redness, pain, itchiness, discoloration, and tenderness at the implant site. These reactions will resolve spontaneously within several days.

ThermaCool - THERMAGE-SKIN TIGHTENING WITHOUT SURGERY
Current laser modalities for facial rejuvenation, such as IPL Photorejuvenation, can result in a modest reduction in facial wrinkles and texture, however, multiple treatment sessions are required.  Radiofrequency energy used by the ThermaCool TC system is a new facial cosmetic surgery technology that induces tissue tightening in little as one to two treatment sessions.  The ThermaCool system delivers radiofrequency energy to the deep dermis and subcutaneous lasers (as deep as 5-6 mm).  A contact cooling hand piece protects the top layer of skin from injury while delivering the energy to deeper areas of the skin where it is needed.  The procedure involves applying this radiofrequency energy into small squares of a grid drawn on the forehead and temples, cheeks and jaw, or neck region of the face.  Each area produces a different response.  Treatment on the forehead produces a moderate brow lift while treatment in the lower face can even reduce jowls and/or neck sagging.  The procedure usually takes 30-45 minutes and has virtually no downtime.  Most people have no problems after the procedure other than minimal swelling lasting a day or two.  The results, since they are based upon collagen formation, usually appear from 2-6 months after the treatment.  A single treatment has produced good results in a significant number of patients; however, some patients may require a second treatment.  The exciting fact about radiofrequency treatment is that even though the skin texture and tightening may take anywhere from 2-6 months to appear, the results may last for years depending upon the aging process.  The ThermaCool has been approved in the U.S. for skin tightening and wrinkles in the forehead; however, the treatment has been approved in Canada for wrinkles and skin tightening in the cheeks/jowl region and for active acne reduction.

SYNERON HAIR REMOVAL SYSTEM
Laser-based hair removal has become one of the most popular methods for hair removal.  This cosmetic surgery is usually performed using laser light to irreversibly damage the hair follicle.  The treatment involves applying laser pulses to the skin surface.  The laser light energy is selectively absorbed by the hair shaft based upon its color.  Dark hair readily absorbs the laser light; however, light hair does not absorb the light as much.  One of the main limitations of laser treatments is the fact that the light energy has to penetrate the skin surface, without injuring it, to reach the depth necessary in the hair to cause damage.  The skin, being rich in melanin or color, poses a barrier to the laser light.  Laser light also heats the skin, particularly if the skin is dark in color.  At the same time, if the hair is too light in color, the laser light is not absorbed by the hair and therefore, is not damaged.  A recent development for the treatment of excessive hair has been the introduction of a system that uses laser-light energy synergistically with conducted radio-frequency energy.  The combination of both energies allows more effective hair removal while minimizing adverse effects on the skin.  Conducted radio-frequency energy has been used in medicine for almost a century; however, its use in combination with laser treatments is new and potentially revolutionary.  The properties of radio-frequency energy are such that the hair follicle is heated.  The hair follicle is the section of the hair that contains the growing cells.  If treatment is focused upon this area, more effective results are ensured.  Also, the unique qualities of conducted radio-frequency energy may help eliminate blonde or gray hairs.
